Search on for environmental champions

The interreg 2Seas Programme promotes cross border cooperation between coastal regions of four member states – areas in France, England, Belgium and The Netherlands.

Do you love where you live – or does it need some TLC?

Are you passionate about your neighbourhood?
Concerned about litter, fly tipping or the condition of your local area?

If you are then Adur and Worthing Councils would love to hear from you as they are looking to work with residents to improve neighbourhoods and reduce litter and fly tipping. This work is being part- funded by the European Regional Development Fund which will help to pay for skips, tools and equipment that could help residents transform their own neighbourhoods.

Adur and Worthing have been funded to set up a scheme where residents become ‘champions’ of an area that they feel passionate about such as a local street, back alley or park. It is easy to be a ‘champion’ and love where you live as you can get involved as much or as little as you like. Typical issues ‘champions’ might report are dog fouling, litter, fly tipping and abandoned vehicles, but they might want to get more involved and undertake environmental projects like bulbs planting; taking part in the Safer Communities partnership’s ‘Week of Action’ programme; or organising a litter pick.  No project is too big or too small.

To get started, the Councils are looking for suggestions to develop the scheme including a name for the ‘champions’. Please send your ideas to Lesley Heath at Adur and Worthing Council Services, Commerce Way, Lancing BN15 8TA by 30th December 2011. The competition winner will receive a digital camera to get them started as a ‘champion’.

If you are keen to get involved and be a ‘champion’ for your local area, then register your interest with Lesley Heath at: lesley.heath@adur-worthing.gov.uk.or 01273 263047 or visit www.adur.gov.uk or www.worthing.gov.uk for more details. We are keen to hear from anyone who wants to improve the environment where they live, work or play – whether individual, family, community group or business ‘champions’ who might want to give an area some TLC.
